Curriculum Overview

At Ferney Lee, we intend to inspire creativity and to encourage our children on their musical journeys whilst giving them opportunities to connect with others. We aim to foster a life-long love of music by igniting a passion for music. Our School Music Development plan ensures that children gain a broad range of musical experiences and opportunities.

CURRICULUM

In EYFS the children gain rich musical experiences through indoor and outdoor provision; daily singing and from weekly music sessions.  In KS1 and KS2 our learners have weekly music lessons following the Kapow music scheme and our year 3 children have the opportunity to learn ukuleles in class. Through the curriculum, our children gain a firm understanding of what music is by listening, singing, playing, evaluating and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions and musical genres.   

EXTRA-CURRICULAR MUSIC

  All children are given the opportunity experience the joy that music brings.  We hold weekly singing assemblies for KS1and KS2 and in nursery we invite parents in to a weekly stay-and-sing.  All KS2 children are offered free instrument tuition throug h Music for the Many and we ha ve a school choir and a school orchestra.

MUSICAL EXPERIENCES

We seek out opportunities for our children to experience live music by inviting musicians in to perform or hold workshops in school.  We also run trips to musicals at Todmorden Hippodrome.  All year groups have the opportunity to perform to an audience in our EYFS and KS1 Christmas shows, our KS2 Christmas Concert and our KS2 end of year production.  Our choir and orchestra also perform in the wider community at events such as Todmorden Folk Festival and with Todmorden Orchestra.
